How to pick a pediatrician 🤔?

So I didn’t know that apparently we MUST have a pediatrician picked out by the time the baby arrives , or else you blindly have to choose one at time of delivery . 
So I’m curious to know how you ladies are going about choosing one ?? I have some that friends/family have recommended BUT....they’re all too far me. Plus I don’t have any children that currently see a Dr, so I can’t go based off that either . Should I just google search for one 🧐

I asked the nurse in my room who was good and she didn’t steer me wrong. She gave me two recommendations and I asked her why she liked them, then picked the one that sounded more my style - she said he really kept up on the research. He’s been great the entire time and I’ll use him again for this one.

I asked my OBGYN if there was anyone they recommended! Turns out there was a pediatrician in that same building, and I’ve been SO happy with them. One of the things I love about my pediatrician is that it’s basically all women, and I think all except one are mothers. I think that gives them a little extra perspective and knowledge about what new moms are going through ;)

I was lucky that my doctor that i loved as a child was able to be my kids as well. It was an easy choice.

Ask friends who they use. I also read up on all the drs bios on the website and I wrote down my top choices of who matched our lifestyle best.

I picked one that was close by my house that had good reviews. The office is also attached to the hospital I delivered at. I would just do your research online. They used to do a meet and greet with the pediatrician but under the circumstances they probably aren’t doing that in person anymore. You might be able to meet over a virtual video call though.

Not sure about your area. But the pediatricians office my kids go to are available for sick appointments 7 days a week. They have the main office and two other offices in neighboring towns that will take the sick visits on Saturday or Sunday. They rotate the offices.  I know some small family doctors are only available Mon-Fri. And if your kid gets a bad cough or rash you are stuck going to urgent care or hospital on the weekend. 
So something to look out for when doing your research.

I got good reviews from some coworkers and my midwives for a pediatric office 5 minutes from my house. I visited their site, did my own research, then made a prenatal/interview appointment with the doctor I was most interested in.

The very first step is to check with your insurance. So many people don’t understand that it is patient responsibility to see who your insurance covers. Tip: just because they accept your insurance does not mean your insurance will cover them! They will provide you with a list of pediatricians they cover in your area and then you can go from there... read reviews, call and ask what their schedules are like, and you’ll eventually narrow it down! :)
