If I have a registry, do I NEED a baby shower? *UPDATE

Due to the pandemic, I will not be having a baby shower and I'm uncomfortable with the idea of a virtual one. I'm due in August. I have a baby registry set up and ready to share with friends and family but a friend of mine (who is a mom) said it's rude to share a registry without having a baby shower because the person wont be acknowledged for their gift. Now I'm having second thoughts about sharing my registry and I'm considering buying everything myself. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone for your thoughts. After some consideration, I will not be using my registry at all, nor ask anyone for anything unless they really insist. I feel really bad asking people to buy stuff off the registry and not have a shower in return.

I wouldn’t share your registry unless someone asks for it since you aren’t doing a shower. I think it’s tacky to share it to people who haven’t asked for it.

Unfortunately I was supposed to have a shower on May 9th and we had to cancel. Since it was cancelled, I didn’t send out my registry except to a few family members that asked. I’ve only gotten two gifts so far 😭. It really sucks but I don’t feel comfortable sharing it if people don’t ask. It’s up to you though. As long as you acknowledge with a nice thank you note, I think it’s ok

We plan on sending the registry link to friends and family. Those who send gift will get a handwritten thank you letter from us assuming they note who bought it on the gift. I’m pretty introverted to begin with and don’t like the whole baby shower thing anyways. Most of my friends know this. Covid19 is giving me an out with the others. Our plan before this was to do a diaper bbq. Where we’d grill and smoke a bunch of stuff and just ask our friends who attend to bring a pack of size 1 or up diapers or packs of wipes.

No. It’s completely different circumstances and I feel like there is no one right way to react. Also, no one should judge you or say anything about how you choose to move forward with your shower! If you aren’t comfortable or don’t see an in person shower as an option, maybe a drive by? And if that isn’t possible people will understand!!

I am having a drive by baby shower. I will be sitting on the porch from 12-2 and will have a small table if favours for them to take home & will send out thank you cards

I think in a time like this some people will likely see past it. Except for the fact that baby showers for December babies would likely be October/ November and a lot of people are expecting things to open up and so they may think it's rude if things are opened up and gatherings are allowed. Honestly. I personally would just do an online one. The "point" of a shower to a lot of people is to see people open up the gifts. As awkward as it might be in my personal opinion if you're sharing a registry that is TYPICALLY showing  that you'll be having a baby shower. With the times people will likely expect it to be online since everything is going on. Now not doing a shower doesn't mean you won't write thank you notes so you'll obviously be acknowledging the gift giver and thanking them, but it's still odd to me to not even do an online one but 🤷🏻‍♀️
You do what feels right to you though. Maybe post it but let people know they will not be attending a baby shower be it in person or online and they can make their decision to purchase or not.
