Gynecologist Career path

Hello I am a graduating senior and I had a few questions on becoming a gynecologist.

When I look up gynecologist, OB/GYN comes up most of the time. I know that an obstetrician focuses more on childbirth while a gynecologist focuses more on the field of medicine.

So my question is, do you have to be an obstetrician to be a gynecologist? I am not so interested on the surgical process. I’m more interested on the medicine field if that makes sense.

If so, are gynecologists given almost or equal importance to obstetricians?

I am passionate on helping women in general and I saw it as a good career path for me. But what has me questioning it is the surgical process.

Also, is there a big difference on the salary? What should I expect?
