When I found out I was pregnant, I immediately knew I wanted to do a home birth. When I told my daughters about my decision they were excited. They asked lots of questions and I told them they absolutely had the option of being at home and participating, or not. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I explained to them that during the birth, mommy will experience sensations - Interesting, big sensations that might cause some discomfort. It may look and sound like I’m in pain, but that’s ok. It’s safe. I told them my body was absolutely capable of going through it all - and not just capable but MADE to do this. I explained to them how I’ve been using meditation and visualization to prepare me for the journey and how the power of my mind will support me through the physical sensations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then I recruited them to help me. I asked if they could make drawings and artwork to help support me. I told them we could put their drawings all around the house when i felt labor coming on, and even underneath the liner of the birthing pool. I explained how positive Visions and affirmations created by their loving energy could really make a difference in my journey. (This idea was given to me by my friend @ifatkent11 - an amazing doula and birth educator in the Miami area) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last night when I was taking a bath, my older daughter Lily came into the bathroom and presented me with a “birth gift” as she called it. Out of beads and string she made something for me to grasp in my hands as I labor. The beads are strung together to say “You Can Do This Mom”. 😭❤️😭❤️ ️ I’m convinced this child is an angel who’s come to earth to illustrate what true Kindness looks like. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I started crying. I feel so lucky. I feel so empowered and supported by my children. My God, how many powerful life lessons are planted within the process of birth?! I’m just so moved and so awed by the pure sweet love of my children. Only a few more weeks (5ish) now until baby boy makes it earth side! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you all for your love and positive energy!
