Do injections hurt?

If all goes well I will be starting my stims next week! I’m excited but so nervous about the injections.  I am doing gonal-f, menopur and ganirelix.  Do they hurt and which one is the worst?

Not really! It is more painful to think about it! The one I had to mix myself was the only one that sometimes stung. Having brain fart though and can't remember the name. Lupron and Gonal F were painless.

Menopur can burn at times. But really, the needles are small and you get used to the stims fast.

Ganirelix is the worst one, but it’s more just the itching afterwards. None of the shots are really bad at all. They aren’t fun, but not bad. Menopur is second, and gonal F is the easiest.

Warm up the menopur in your hand before you inject it!! Just do it. The gage on the Ganirelix is a bit thicker (at least it was for me!) so you’ll feel it more, especially because the longer you’re on the meds, the more tender you’ll get. Don’t freak out, it’s normal for the stims and blood draws to hurt a little more as you go along. None told me about that so I was very confused until I brought it up during an appointment. It still doesn’t hurt that bad though, just know the injections will feel different towards the end.

Injections are not pleasant but if you put ice pack before the injections it will numb the area you won’t feel a thing, the menapur burns a little but take deep breaths and it goes away in seconds and think about the “light at the end of the tunnel” that you might get to hug your baby and forget all the anxiety. 😘 It’s all worth it at the end. I promise
