Shortened name as a first name?

I love the name Maddy, which obviously is short for Maddison. 
Could I use Maddy as my daughters first name or should I name her Maddison and just call her Maddy for short?

We call my son Theo but we named him Theodore. We wanted him to have the option to use his proper name in formal or professional settings and use Theo or other nicknames with family and friends. I like having a proper name with nicknames but that’s my personal preference. Also, Maddy/Maddie can be a nickname for several different names- Madelyn, Maddison/Madison, Matilda, Madeira, Madonna, etc.

I love Maddy as a nickname and am considering using Madeline if this baby is a girl. I would give her a formal name so she has the option.

Name her Maddy if you like 😍 we have a makenzie but love having a nn of Kenzie. I think it makes occasions more special when her wedding invitation someday will say Makenzie etc.

I personally am not of a fan of using nicknames as given names.

It’s a big trend right now to name a kid a shortened nickname instead of the longer, full name. Do whatever feels right to you!
