Small babies...does anyone have a small baby?

Question

Asking for a family member.. Weighed 6 1/2 lbs at birth and was measuring small throughout the whole pregnancy. breastfeeding. And at last doctors appt (4 months old) weighed 11 lbs 7.5 oz , they’re now saying to supplement with formula cuz he’s too small????? Under 1% percentile for his age. Momma pumps 9 oz in a day when she works 9 hour shift and he usually eats 3-5 oz a feeding in a bottle every 3-4 hours  when using one but if mom is home nurses a lot and has a lot wet and poopy diapers 
He’s always been a small baby so not sure why doctor is saying to supplement. He’s still gaining weight and gained over 3 lbs since last appt which was at 2 months.
Should look for a new doctor? This doctor isn’t even a baby doctor (regular family doctor that is old) and last appt he acted like everything was fine.

The growth curve for breastfed babies are different.. I feel like not enough doctors acknowledge that. As long as baby has enough wet diapers and is thriving I would say baby is fine.

My baby was a preemie and was breastfed exclusively until he started eating solids. He was born 5 pounds and was always gradually growing. The only time he was on formula was when he was in the NICU for a month mixed with breast milk. I know that hind milk is important for babies and I wonder if her breast milk has enough fat/calories in it. Is the baby eating solids by any chance?

My daughter was born 4.11lb at 38 weeks, I was told to give her as much breastmilk as possible and only give formula when I run out. Her doctor wasn’t too concerned about weight honestly she cared if she ate enough and was getting enough nutrition. My second daughter was born at 6lb and I was never told she was under weight.

🙋🏼‍♀️ 6lbs15oz at birth which isn’t super small BUT she didn’t gain a lot after that and was just about 14lbs at 7 months.. not sure where she is at now but she has always been small and when she started walking before 11 months she looks hilarious but she seems like she’s on 7-8 months because she so petite. Doc also says she’s on the shorter side which is WEIRD because I’m 5’9” and SO is 6’4” so we’re not short lol

My daughter was small and is still small. At 4 mo the she weighed 13.6 pounds. We breastfed exclusively. When we started baby led weaning at 6 months it helped some but she just has a fast metabolism.
