Is it legal for a parent to kick out a minor child? (under 18)

I have heard some teens (under 18) say that they were kicked out by their parents. I did not know that this was possible because if you are under 18 your parents are still legally responsible for you.

I don't think it particularly matters if it's legal or not to be honest. When a teenager is kicked out- it's obviously not a good home situation. 
The teenager likely doesnt particularly want to go back, because quite frankly, who wants to live in a house with someone who hated you so much that they tried to get rid of you and the only reason you're there now is because they were literally forced to keep you? Talk about feeling unwanted and uncomfortable. 
Teenagers also don't have the logical thought process of 'okay, I can only stay until I'm 18, so I'll suffer through the uncomfortable situation while I save up to be capable of leaving when my time is up' 
I know several people who were kicked out when they were 15/16/17. My mom tried it with my on multiple occasions when my dad wasn't around to stop her. 
In none of these situations were the teenagers thinking of calling the police to get thier parents to let them back in. They were all thinking of 'okay, where can I go now? I can't go home. Time to find a way to survive' 
Does that make sense? Just because it might illegal, doesn't mean it really matters

It may depend on specific location, but generally no. They have to provide housing and the other basics. It can be considered abandonment and neglect.

Well I think it depends on the reasons why. If a 16 year old has been kicked out for failing a test that's obviously unreasonable. But if a 16 year old has been kicked out because they're on drugs and they've threatened the life of their siblings, that's a very valid reason to make them leave, personally.

I don’t think it’s legal technically, but typically people don’t go to the police in those situations, and if they do, sometimes the police don’t really care unfortunately

You can forfeit parents rights to your child until they are 17 years 364 days old. At any time in their lives. It is a legal process and you do have to formally turn them over to the state however you cannot just toss them out of your house. That is child abandonment and endangerment, a crime.
