2YR OLD W/COUGH

Morgan

Mamas - what would you do if you were me?

So my baby was all set to start going to daycare. He started back on March 9th. Went for the week and BAM! Pandemic! My son also developed a cold as one does being amongst a bunch of other toddlers. Some sick and some not. It's to be expected.🤷‍♀️

So by week 2, I've pulled him out because now they've emailed parents that if your baby has any of the symptoms to keep them home and to self-isolate.

By week 3, the Grandparents are encouraging me to keep him home and don't send him back until things start looking up. Also, his cough seems to be getting better.

Week 4, still coughing. I took him to urgent care because his pediatrician won't see him. The urgent care Dr prescribes Amoxicillin for 1 week - wasn't crazy his bedside manner and I had been there before and the guy was pretty nice, but I guess because of stress or just not use to kids? Got the sense he was inexperienced with toddlers. 🤷‍♀️

Week 6 to now, he is still coughing. Pediatrician still won't see him and he's due for a physical so he can't have it done until it clears.

Last week, I tried to call around to other urgent care places and they referred me to Children's hospitals and to possibly test for Covid 19. Called the hospital only to be referred to local pediatricians that are seeing patients. 🤦‍♀️

His cough isn't getting worse, but it's just still there and he does not have a fever. He has coughed up mucus, too. Speaking with my own my, it seems like he just has congestion and possible allergy problems. My MIL thinks and has me convinced that I shouldn't take him anywhere because of the "what if" factor - which is what if I take him to any of those places and he doesn't have virus... but picks it up from being exposed to people that do while trying to get someone to treat his mild (yet ongoing) cough. (We live in MIA, too, which has a record high of the number of cases)

Last night, my son had a bit of coughing fit and it sounded like he was trying to expel mucus. My husband said I needed to take him to a doctor.

So... now I feel stuck. As a mother, I want to do what is right, but I feel like in either scenario, I'm endangering my son...

And he's handling it like a champ, he's been in good, high spirits this whole time.

Sorry for the rambling 😩
