Is my son showing signs of autism?

When my son was younger I posed this question because everytime he was going to bed he smacked his forehead with the back of his hand repeatedly or waved it in the air till he fell asleep 0-3m. After he adopted kicking his heels on his butt. Flash forward to now 10m the smacking has come back in full force. (The waving has been constant)

Only a dr can tell you this. This could be a behavioral issue as well. My son did the head thing when he was young and it was for attention. Nobody on here would know if he was or not.

At this age its way to early to tell. Some kids just go through weird stages of stuff like this, some dont, some who do are diagnosed with autism later, and some babies who dont do these things are diagnosed with autism. Its to early to tell

It can be difficult to diagnose autism in children under the age of 2-4, but not unheard-of. I would suggest you take videos of this behavior anytime you see it to show to your child's doctor. This will help your doctor, usually they will request an in home or at school evaluation. If your child's behavior is causing injury or harm, I would try to schedule an appointment with the doctor immediately to avoid further injury.

Talk to your child’s doctor. My son was diagnosed a 2. Ive noticed certain things before the age of one so it wasn’t a big shocker to me. Luckily they are now evaluating babies at 6 months

Well it could be many things, best to talk to his pediatrician. My daughter autistic, she hits her head with her toys over and over. She also has an sensory disorder. ￼￼￼

I think its still too early to tell. At this stage sometimes they do certain movements just because they realize they can. When my son was around one he would bang his head on the wall a couple times if he got mad, tired, or didn't get his way. The doctor wasnt concerned. He grew out of that behavior and is a happy healthy 2 year old.

My son is autistic and wasn’t diagnosed until he was 3 years old. As babies it’s very hard to diagnose just by symptoms. Have you discussed concerns with your pediatrician? They can refer you to someone to help you manage and/ or at least keep your eyes open. It could just be a baby thing. When my son was a baby he didn’t hit his milestones he didn’t even talk until after we started speech therapy and even then it was a long road and still is (he’s now 10)

It’s too early. My son was diagnosed at 5, after two years of noticing his regression. He was speaking 2 word sentences at 18 months, but he slowly started regressing and started grunting and pointing instead of talking, slowly started decreasing eye contact.

It’s way too early to tell, and there are a lot of behavioral problems that have nothing to do with autism
