Curfew because of protest-is this unjust?

I’m from Oregon and the major put a curfew over the city of Portland because of the protests and riots in the town. Apparently anyone seen in the streets after 8pm will be arrested. I just feel like this is going overboard and isn’t following the right to assemble? I thought we had a right to protest in America

The right to assemble and protest does not equate to a right to loot and pillage. I completely understand the pain and anger that led to the initial rioting and looting in Minneapolis, but I think some of what is going on in places like Portland is opportunism. I think some people are using the protests as cover to behave badly and they are not really there to protest and agitate for a change to the system that allows black men to be murdered in the streets by the police without consequence. That is absolutely a worthy cause and one I will support to my dying day, but there are those bad actors out there who will take advantage of a good thing for their own nefarious purposes. I live right next door to Portland and this isn't the first time violent agitators have been bent on destruction. This is just the first time Ted Wheeler has decided to try and impose some kind of order on it.

They’re doing it in my parents’ city (Minneapolis) to round up the fuckers who are out destroying people’s livelihoods. I fully support that shit. People are still out protesting anyway and they’re not arresting them, it’s just less chaotic with the curfew so they can actually see who’s being an opportunistic jerk and who truly is there to protest.

Chicago mayor also put in place a curfew till further notice.. 9pm-6am. I agree with it.
I feel like the right of peaceful protest is being universally confused with the crime of violent protest and looting and being spoken about like everyone showing up to protest areas across the country are doing so with the same reasons and intentions... the Chicago mayor (in the speech that included the curfew information) offered encouragement to those who were executing their right to peaceful protest, but condemned the rioting behavior and made it clear arrests would happen. She also recognized that people were coming to the protests essentially armed with things to throw at police, including their own waste and urine.. which is pre-meditating assault. 
The mayor has an obligation to keep the people as safe as possible, which includes empowering the police to do their jobs and not accept destruction. It is not acceptable to universally blame all police officers and open them to assault for the actions taken by some of some... Chicago has shootings everyday and it would be wrong for anyone to suggest that all the people who live in areas with high shooting rates are doing this or are criminals by association, or are wanting or enabling that violence.

8pm is a tad early but it's a temporary measure for safety. Nothing to be upset about. Unless the riots stop and they still try to enforce it, then be mad.

In a way isnt it against our freedom of speech amendment? While yes they’re afraid of rioters, they’re making laws so people can’t protest... which is their right whether it’s at 10am or 10pm. Not sure how I feel about that

My city (Chicago) has a curfew now too. It’s to keep people safe and off the streets. I’m not questioning this curfew because honestly it’s dangerous to be outside right now.

I don’t agree with it. I live in Philly and our mayor also instituted a curfew from 8p to 6a tonight and tomorrow. No one is supposed to be outside after 8pm 🙄. Miss me with the bullshit bc that’s early af.
