Do people actually think they need to go to the hospital on their due date, even if they aren't in labor?

I was talking to a male friend who has a child today and he asked when my due date was. I told him and joked that it doesn't really matter because babies will come whenever and then he asked me 'You know not to go on your due date if you aren't in labor right?'

And I was like 'Yeahhhhh... I mean why would I?' he said he knew a few people who thought they had to show up on their due date even if they weren't in labor.

I have NEVER heard of that. Have you? Or did you? No judgement, I get the confusion. I just have never heard of that.
