To qualify for cerb you need to have made at least 5,000$ in 2019, not be eligible for ei and laid off due to covid-19. Basically you answer a few questions and get the money within a few days. They won’t check to see if you qualify until after you’re given the money (up to 8000$ for 4 months) But almost everyone I know, doesn’t qualify yet they are still taking the money? I’m mainly worried about my two siblings. They have gotten the money with their boyfriends. They’re both younger but one is pregnant. (17 and 18) so now I know they will sometime figure out and have to pay it back right? Will they have to pay all of it back upfront? Do you think they’ll let them set up a payment plan? My one sister is refusing to update her ROE so that don’t know she hasn’t been working since last summer. They don’t know she quit her job a year ago. My other sisters boyfriend worked under the table but also quit last summer due to school. So he wasn’t laid off due to covid and didn’t make “legal” money but he thinks they owe him cerb because he doesn’t get taxes? You can’t get tax money back if you don’t claim taxes so I don’t know his thought process on that. I just want to make sure they won’t go to jail or get charged. Because my 18 year old sister is having a baby in a few weeks and she can’t afford to pay that back. She can’t afford to go to jail either obviously. So I’m just worried for them both.
