How long will you wait to introduce your newborn to family during Covid?

Our family lives out of state and wants to fly to us as soon as she’s born it’s only a little over an hour flight, but I of course want at LEAST 1-2 weeks to settle and bond with her before anyone coming.. Even then I’m extremely nervous about anyone flying and then being around her while she’s a newborn.. I also want them to be able to meet her while she’s young as she’s the first grand baby so the excitement is overwhelming of course. Any suggestions? First time mama here!

I just talked to my dr about this because I’m feeling pressured by family. Her response was that she would recommend being outside and only I or my husband hold him. She also recommended that everyone be six feet away or wearing a mask if closer than that.
It’s such a hard time with all of this because I want family to see him and interact with him, but also want him safe. And now with things opening it feels like family doesn’t take it as seriously as they did.
I think 1-2 weeks is totally reasonable, especially if you are trying to breastfeed. It’s so much easier to just not wear a shirt the first couple weeks and not worry about dealing with other people! And you are recovering too and need time to rest!

I’d talk to your doctor and get their specific advice as it may differ depending on where you live and where your family members are coming from. If they are flying to or from a very high risk area (being exposed to plane and airport germs along the way) your doctor might recommend they self quarantine for 2 weeks after their flight before visiting you for example. If they are coming from a low risk area they might recommend a more personal hygiene (washing hands, wearing clean clothes, face masks, etc) or social distancing type approach. Or they might just recommend waiting until your LO is a certain age.
That way you’re following the best advice and you and your SO cant be seen as the ‘bad guys’ or ‘overprotective’ for following doctors orders.

We are waiting two weeks before anyone can see him.  It’s been nice to have the bonding time and encourages family to social distance in the mean time. 
When immediate family does meet him, they will be wearing a mask. Ideally outside but it’s starting to get hot! 
Overall, limited visitors until his 2mo shots.
