How long does it take to ovulate again after labor?

My husband and I had our sweet baby boy on April 29, 2020. Unfortunately he did not make it due to his cord being wrapped 3 times and he had a blood clot in the cord cutting off oxygen and blood flow to him. I was 37 weeks when we had him. This is the hardest thing we have had to  deal with. Not that we will ever forget him he will ALWAYS be in our hearts and on our minds, We have decided we wanted to start TTC as soon as we could. If anybody has any tips on when you ovulate  after birth or tips on TTC after giving birth please let me know. Anything is helpful.

First of all, I am so sorry for your heartbreaking loss 💙👼🏻
To answer your question:
At my 6 week post partum appointment the ultrasound showed that I had follicles ready to pop and that my uterine lining was ready again to receive an egg. I don’t know if this is typical, but it seems that in purely ovulatory terms I was ready to go after ~6 weeks.
BUT it’s worth considering that since you were almost full term, your body may still be quite depleted of a bunch of nutrients, notably iron and clacium, and any diastasis you had in your abdominals will still be quite open.
I believe they recommend at least 6 months before getting pregnant again, preferably 18 months. This is due to a strong correlation between short inter pregnancy interval and the risk of preterm labour in the second pregnancy - I.e. the shorter the interval between pregnancies below 18 months, the more likely you are to suffer complications and give birth prematurely. Obviously lots of people have ‘Irish twins’ and are just fine but the correlation is real and something you have to factor in.

I’m sorry for your loss. It can take time for your cycle to regulate itself back out after birth. Your body could use more time to heal before getting pregnant again.
