This also goes for adult clothes. I used to be one of those wear without washing people until I went shopping with my college roommate and she tried on underwear in Victoria secret and put back the ones she didn’t like😳. All of a sudden I wondered how many other people’s raw body parts touched my clothes and I didn’t wash them 🤮. 
But definitely wash baby clothes due to chemicals and dust most likely!

Absolutely. Cloths have so much chemicals on them to keep bugs off, stains off, keep from wrinkling, keep the colors brighter, etc. You absolutely need to wash them before putting baby in them

Yes, aside from all the points already mentioned, I've noticed new baby clothes tend to be a bit stiff/scratchy. Washing them helps soften them up before putting them on baby's sensitive skin.

Always wash everything.. for any age. I see this question posted a lot and I can not stress enough how important it is to wash before wearing.
I work in the apparel industry as a designer and have toured manufacturing facilities in many parts of the world and one thing is consistent.. fabric sits in huge rolls, sometimes in dusty conditions for quite some time.. it is not laundered for wear prior to being sewn into garments, and after it is sewn it just gets heat pressed to look nice in a package or on a hanger.. while the heat press may kill anything active, the garment is still covered in potential allergens or other unsavory but microscopic stuff you wouldn’t want on your body if you can help it. 
Just because something looks ‘new’ doesn’t mean it’s clean.

Make sure you wash all baby blankets and bath towels as well..
