Do baby's need dark to sleep?

I dont know if this is a stupid question but our nursery is a very bright room and has two windows, we currently have only normal curtains.
Will i need to change these for blackout curtains? As it doesnt get particularly dark in there so im wondering if this will effect babys sleep?

Newborns can’t tell the difference between night and day for a few months, hence why most babies sleep a lot during the day and are up at night lol
But, with my kids I always have a dark room for day time naps along with white noise. I feel it helps them sleep better

It won’t hurt.  But, for us, we decided we wanted to help our son be as adaptable as possible to any surroundings.  So, he has slept in dark, in daylight, in his crib, in his playpen, in his stroller outside walking or stationary in hot, cold, sun, rain and snow with traffic noise, in quiet parks, by water fountains, slept in the car, slept in cribs in hotels, beds in hotels, in my arms with music, lullabies, tv.  He is super adaptable and rarely ever fought bedtime or naps.  He is 20 months old.

No, but it can help. What I did that I feel may have helped is I had my son nap wherever was convenient for me (especially early on when he would nap on me or nap in the livingroom in his pack and play), which were often bright areas. Supposedly this helps their body's establish that its day time so they wont sleep quite as long. When it was bed time I would put him in his crib in either our room or his room (both dark) and if he woke up in the night I would keep the lights low if I needed them at all. I think this routine helped establish night/day sleep patterns pretty well and he began sleeping through quite young (4 weeks old) and even now he is a toddler he rarely gets out of bed before 7:45am.

My niece can't sleep long in bright areas she has to sleep in the pitch black with her noise machine but she sleeps through the night and is only 4 months old
