Bedtime Issues

Amanda

My LO turned 5 months last week and bedtime (sometimes naps, too) is becoming progressively more of a nightmare each day. We follow the same bedtime routine we have since she was about 8 weeks old. But she now screams inconsolably during “cuddles/rocking” after her bottle. We tried just putting her right in the crib after the bottle and she screamed just the same. Sometimes it takes 2 hours to get her to finally sleep. She calms a little more easily with her Dad then with me, which further breaks my heart that I can’t soothe her.

Can anyone relate, or even better, give advice? I feel like I’m going to have a nervous breakdown from the stress and her insane crying.

My LO is 23 weeks and is going through the SAME thing. It’s so exhausting!! He’s super fussy even when feeding, I always try to stop if he gets too fidgety, burp him a little and try again, it usually works! Sleep is a nightmare too, I guess it’s just a hard developmental leap for them on top of teething. Stay strong, it will pass eventually!!

Also, try putting them to sleep a little earlier!! That way if it takes an hour or so to put them down, it’s around the time they normally go!

Do you have a nap and bedtime routine? If babe is crying that much I would suggest sleep training. It sounds like they’re having trouble falling asleep and it’s an important skill to have. We did the Ferber method. It’s a more gentle approach with periodic checks. It was a rough two days but then she had it done and life is so much better.
