Is a membrane sweep safe?

FTM- I’m getting my membrane swept next week at 39 weeks- is there risks? Is it safe?

I would say it’s safe. It’s not going to do anything to hurt you or baby (that I know of). I did it with my first and my doctors biggest warning was that doing it could break my water right then. It didn’t though. I had it done at 39 weeks and went into labor that same day! Still toying with if I want to do it again this time or not.

Im due to have one next week too, from researching it so far I haven’t found ant evidence to say that it can cause any harm to or baby. It can either work or not do anything but i yet havent found any dangers to having it done☺️

It increases risk of infection (same as cervical checks) and there is a very small risk of your waters being ruptured. It is generally seen as safe though. I'm getting one in a few hours 🤞

The biggest risk is it can break your water. It can also cause cramping and bleeding. I personally prefer not to mess with things and let baby decide when it’s time.

I did it twice with my first. There can be some spotting but not necessarily real danger. It was very uncomfortable because I have a high cervix. The first I dilated to a 2. The second I got to a 3. I ended up going 41+5. Went to be induced but was in labor already. So they helped me dilate but I didn’t go into labor with them.
