Best birth control??!

Question

Hey Ladies so this is my first time ever getting birth control and I’m a little nervous because I’ve always sided against using and type of birth control. I talked to my doctor today and we are planning on doing the IUD but I’m not completely sure I want to do it because of what I’ve heard about it. My doctor also told me since I smoke that the pill wouldn’t be a good option so what do I do? I’ve had terrible/unbearable periods my whole life and I want to do something about it. Is birth control the right way to go and if you’ve ever had an IUD what’s your opinion? HELP!! 😪

I had the Mirena and had a consistent period for about a year, which was really inconvenient but that was about it. I had a little bit of cramping when I got it in, it’s not a comfortable thing. Other than that it was pretty good. I didn’t like it because my period were really irregular and I was having unprotected sex with my long term partner. I took pregnancy tests almost every month just to be sure because I never knew if they were just coming at a different time or not at all. I think I had mine for about a year and a half before I got it taken out because I just didn’t like the uncertainty. Just keep in mind that its different for everyone!!

Iud are great. Super helpful. Implanting it is uncomfortable but then you are set. Good for those that don't do well with hormonal systemic bc

Birth control is the best thing that ever happened to me because my periods were terrible. A lot of people post IUD horror stories but you only see those because no one really says anything when it’s going good. It hurts a lot going in. Like a lot. But once it’s in you never even know and it is so worth it. When I had it in I had no problems and my periods were so easy. I only had it taken out because I have cyst issues.
