Can doctors keep it confidential?

I’m about 9 weeks pregnant with my first. I’m 17 years old and from Alberta Canada. I need to make an appointment but haven’t told my parents yet. Would they be able to keep it from my parents until I tell them?

I’m in Alberta too. The Dr’s won’t call and tell your parents but they do send all your ultrasound appointments by mail and call the house phone for appointment reminders. If you need medication for morning sickness or anything like that it will also show on your parents benefits as you’ll need their card until 21.

The appointment itself will be confidential but as soon as you need any type of procedure/ prescription, ultrasound, that could potentially be billed to your parents through insurance or clinics could be using your home phone number to get it touch with you. I would talk to the doctor about your situation.

I work in a pcp office and at your age we’re not even allowed to tell your parents we ordered you an STD panel or anything even if they bring you to your appt.  they would need to be listed on your hipaa form as someone were allowed to talk to
