If one person makes significantly more money in a relationship, would you split rent down the middle or should the person who makes more pay more?

I’m just curious what you guys think! I make significantly more than my boyfriend and I was curious what other people would do in this situation. Usually we would do half and half but now that I’m making more I’m wondering if I should pay more. We’re having a baby in 6 months and we both are good about saving money and helping each other out whenever needed, so there’s no argument about it I’m just curious! 
I wasn’t sure what group to put this in so if you have any suggestions for a better group let me know!

I would say keep it down the middle unless your partner is struggling. help out more when you can. Just stash your extra earnings for the baby in the future or any unforeseen problems that may come up

Neither. My husband contributed what he could and I contributed what he could. Now that we are married, we just  combine almost everything

We always split things down the middle before we were pregnant. When we got engaged we got a joint credit card, so all of our going out/grocery/utility expenses went on that and we each paid half every month. The only time I paid the majority of the bills was when we moved states for my job suddenly, so he was out of work for a few months while we got settled. Now that we’re married all of our accounts are joint so it just take care of itself. We have very similar spending habits and money has never been a point of contention in our relationship so it works for us.

My husband make $28k more than me. He pays all the house bills and I’m responsible for the incidentals like eating out, groceries etc and things pertaining to the kids.

It’s a really personal choice. When my husband and I moved in together years ago when we were dating, we had both had previous relationships where we split everything down the middle. We both decided that this created a certain amount of tension around finances that we didn’t like.  We agreed that we would work as a team, and that has always been our attitude. We pool money into our joint account for rent, but we don’t keep track of who puts in how much. We just work together to make sure that all our needs are being met. This has worked great for us. Open communication and team work.

Although we spilt half and half , since I been pregnant and make less, he just started paying all the bills and I pitch in when I can. When I was making more and though it wasn’t more then him we spilt every bill. We’re married so I feel it doesn’t really matter who spends more because we always balance it out be it he pays all the bills and I pay for groceries. We always take turns so it’s never a problem.

I'd keep that the same but just take on more of the shopping for baby. Bug baby items like cribs, travel systems, gliders, etc aren't cheap.

Different things work for people. My fiancé and I own our home in both of our names. He makes more than me. Almost double. He paid the mortgage and groceries i pay the cable and utilities and trash. We both pay our own car payments and credit cards and such. It works for us. We have separate bank accounts and a shared savings but we both also have our own savings. If we make big purchases for the home like furniture we usually split it half.

I've had separate accts with an x and joint with my husband. With my x we split everything 50/50 and I think he maybe made more than me but that was a long time ago so could be wrong. Now, my husband is a stay at home Dad so I'm the income provider but even when he was working I made significantly more and we had joint accounts then too. Do whatever works for you both.
