When to have a baby shower

Question

When is it ‘too early’ to have a baby shower? Since you mostly get everything you need from a baby shower I have thought not to buy anything before then, but I also don’t want to be under prepared.

I had mine at 30 weeks with my first. I’m debating whether or not to have one a second time around, my little one is only 10 months so it was only last year I had my last one! I feel like it’s too soon and too much to ask of people!!

A cousin is having 3 small ones due to COVID so under 20 people at each and was 26 weeks at the first one. It was a really nice backyard get together and was more her speed as she’s not a big fan of being the center of attention. I can’t remember how far I was for mine but I wish it had been earlier because I was so big and had foot/leg swelling.

I had mine super late like 36 weeks for my first but it was before COVID and my family goes over the top for babies so I knew the bigger items would be bought. If your worried then I would start setting money aside. There is no point to buying them now when most places offer a completion discount for buying the rest of the stuff off your registry.

I think most do it like 26-32 week range but I’m not sure. 
We are buying stuff we want as we have money because even though this is our first the way our family has been acting and with the pandemic we aren’t even sure I’ll get a baby shower so 🤷🏻‍♀️ we’re definitely going to be under prepared if we wait for a baby shower we might not have... my family is supportive of our baby but everyone has been off recently. His family just moved 8 hours further from us and his mom isn’t sure she wants to throw me one because I told her I won’t have myself and everyone travel 8+ hours (mine is 13/14 but most live about 8 hours from them) for a baby shower because that’s ridiculous it’s not a wedding!!! But my mom said maybe she’ll do one but she doesn’t have much money at all so I’m not sure she’ll be doing it either. I am waiting until the 15% discount kicks in for the expensive items 15% isn’t much but it helps! Any money off is better than none. So if someone buys crib/chair/dresser before we get to it then obviously we’ll be grateful but if they don’t we’ll be able to use the discount!
