How can I be more understanding

I’m going to try and keep this short. We were supposed to have a COVID friendly baby shower. There were things in effect to make it social distance approved and masks were encouraged plus it was outside in a large space.

My MIL and my friend Jen were planning it. MIL lives out of state and Jen told her she’d do the invites. So MIL gave her the list of her side of the family and I gave her mine. Invites were sent out 2 weeks behind schedule. So after two weeks of not hearing from people my MIL contacted her family. They all said no. Jen says that MIL and her talked last Friday about canceling the shower because half the people said no and the other half didn’t respond at all. So Sunday my husband told me they had canceled the shower completely and why. I understand but I was heartbroken.

Yesterday morning I talk to Jen and she tells me that MIL made the call without telling her she was going to notify people. MIL says otherwise. Jen has been away most of the month with vacations so it been hard to get ahold of her. The shower details were a surprise to me so Sunday everything was laid on me. After talking to MIL and Jen yesterday, I got on my computer and started contacting everyone that was on my list. No one from my list received an invite at all. Also, they all said they would have come if they had known. So how did the post office lose the invites for only my side of the invites but not the other half? There’s been so much miscommunication and I’m picking up the pieces. Jen won’t answer my texts but is posting on social media about her daughter’s birthday party that’s in September.
