Is genetic testing worth it?

Question

I’m a healthy 22 yr old female, family is healthy and so is s/o family. We are both debating wether it’s worth getting it done if we’re both healthy? I’m not high risk, or over 35 so insurance doesn’t cover it and we’re trying to decide if we should still do it or not since it’s not covered but we’re both healthy. Any suggestions?

I live in Canada so it’s covered under OHIP. I got it done with my daughter and will with this baby. It doesnt matter what the results are, however it’s better to be prepared.

Under 35, both from healthy families with absolutely no history of any genetic disorders amongst our siblings or even amongst all our second cousins and extended family. We still did all the genetic testing and, much to our shock and disbelief, found out I am a carrier for cystic fibrosis. Thankfully, we tested my husband and he proved to not be a carrier. But now all my siblings and cousins know to get tested too just to make sure when they start trying to conceive.

I’m in Canada and the testing is covered here but I still turn it down. We just wait till the 20 week scan. The results of the testing wouldn’t change anything for us so we always opt out.

I’m 21 and have a genetic defect so 100% recommend
We didn’t know until I gave it to my son & he passed away at 4days old.
Have you had any sudden infant losses in your family? Maybe if you have consider it but if you’re healthy you should be good without it 🙂

I never did with any of my kids, I'm 29 now with baby #6. The only tests they did were routine I think, the down syndrome sonogram and blood work
