Posting anonymously because I feel really bad asking something like this, but we had a situation tonight and I’m unsure what I should do now.

My son is a great sleeper. Usually goes to bed any time between 6 and 7, sleeps until 5:30-6. He naps well too for the most part. Tonight he went to bed like normal, fussed for a couple minutes when I first laid him down and then fell right asleep. But he was very restless. He kept moving around and waking up, which is unlike him. He moves sometimes but doesn’t usually wake up. At one point, he woke up and he clearly wasn’t settling right back down to sleep. He wasn’t crying, but was sitting up so I went in to see if maybe he would go back to sleep with a few snuggles.

He didn’t - he was still extremely restless. I changed his diaper and tried to lay him back down but he wasn’t having it so I picked him back up. Tried everything to get him to go to sleep, nothing worked. Before long he was doing some strange movements. They happened both when I would hold him and also when I would put him down because he acted like he wanted down. His body kind of stiffened. It happened a few times (I didn’t keep track of how many), only lasting a couple seconds, and the time in between them varied quite a bit. I’m completely paranoid about infantile spasms now. I’ve seen videos of them and I know they can be anything from extremely obvious jerking to very subtle twitches. They seemed to kind of upset him more too. I didn’t get a chance to take a video because I will admit I was frazzled by everything going on and didn’t think to take one. He was completely inconsolable for some of the time this was going on which is not like him at all. My husband was also no help - he was frustrated and not understanding the of why I was worried.

I did end up laying him back down - he cried for a minute and then finally fell asleep. He’s still sleeping now. This is where my question comes in - I know I need to call his pediatrician no later than first thing in the morning because if they were infantile spasms those are very serious. But do I need to just take him to the ER? Should I call the on call doctor now or am I safe to wait until morning? I’m hoping someone is awake and will see this and tell me what they think. I’m still a bundle of nerves and have no idea what to do.
