First birthday-smash cake?!

Did you guys get two smash cakes for your baby’s first birthday? We were planning on getting her a smash cake for her actual birthday (the day it falls on) taking pictures and celebrating. And we also are having a birthday party for her the following Saturday and will have a nice cake for the guests, and we were planning on just giving her a slice of that cake for her to have. Orrr should we get her another smash cake as well for her actual party? What did you guys do?

We let her go wild on a heavily frosted cupcake for her birthday and saved the real cake for her party.

His first birthday was the first week of COVID lockdown, so our wedding reception and his first birthday party were cancelled (since we had planned them both for the same time because family lives so far away).
We didn’t get a cake because I think it would have been a big waste for only the 3 of us, so we just did some Rice Krispie squares with sprinkles on top. I don’t think we would have done a smash cake to begin with though.

We had a smash cake for his birthday party and then a regular cake for the guests to eat. On his actual birthday, he had ice cream for the first time as a treat instead of another cake.

I did the smash cake for her party, not for her actual birthday. We didn’t even do cake for her real birthday. Oh and I got a small cute cupcake for her to smash. In my opinion, it looks better for photos than a slice of cake.
