Home flooding- UPDATE!
Update: I got a call from the realtor she ran the issue by a lawyer & he said I do have a very strong case that he feels confident I would win. Especially since I have evidence that the owners knew. He said I could sue for up to 3x damages. However the only issue is a lot of lawyers have you put up a retaining fee of like $3-4000 before they even take your case. So would it be cheaper to fix the house issues myself? I’m just mad because I never would have bought the house knowing this!! I really can’t afford a lot of home repairs right now. So not sure what the best thing would be to do.
Hello, we recently purchased our first home in November 2019. This past weekend we had over 7 Inches of rain in a short amount of time which led to our storage room flooding and our crawl space completely flooded.
I had spoken to a neighbor several weeks ago & she asked if we had any issues with water coming in or if the previous owners had discussed the issue with us.
They hadn’t- apparently there is a vacant lot that has draining issues and floods into both of our yards.
After doing some investigation I found a post on the previous owners Facebook. Complaining that his yard was flooding( he has pictures and vidoes on there) he stated he had spoke to the city about it and they weren’t going to do anything about it.
I obviously wouldn’t have bought a house if I knew it had flooding issues. The disclosure states there are no known flooding issues Or draining issues - clearly they lied .
Everything I have read, says I am able to sue but I am really scared and I hate confrontation however this was a huge investment and I feel I got the bad end of the deal. What do I do??
