High TSH?

On my doctors portal I got a test result back for Assay, Thyroid stim hormone and it says the range is 0.270-4.200 and my result is 6.020 
This is my 5th pregnancy and I’ve never had this result. I’m freaking out! I’m hoping my doctor or nurse calls today to tell me more about it. I have no idea what it means!

During the first trimester, you want your TSH under 2.5. They will likely start you on a low dose 25mcg of either Levothyroxine or Synthroid and adjust you from there. It may self correct after baby is born, or you may discover that you are going to need continual treatment. It was my second pregnancy, during which, they finally diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s. Ask the doctor to run your TPO/AB and don’t take no for an answer. That will tell you if it’s autoimmune or not. It’s not the end of the world, but it is something you’re going to want to keep an eye on. They should also run your FT4, FT3, T3, and reverse T3.If your OB is not treating it aggressively enough to keep it in optimal levels (really, for most people TSH should be below 2.0 or they won’t feel their best) request a referral to an endocrinologist. That’s what I eventually had to do. Again, don’t stress it but do take it seriously. 😊 Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

My levels were 3.6 so within normal range but my OB has given me hypothyroid medication to take everyday as a precaution because hypothyroidism can increase your risk of miscarriage. Hopefully you can talk to your OB soon so they can explain it more but I wouldn’t stress about it too much!

This happened to me too, my doctor said it's easily treatable and not to stress about it. I'm taking a tiny pill in the morning on an empty stomach and problem solved! Only sad thing is that it could continue after pregnancy.
