Wean off nipple sheild?

Question

My baby is 3 weeks old and I’ve been using a nipple shield￼. (Super painful when I first started BF and nurse recommended the shield). 
Well now I’ve been trying to nurse without one and she will latch and start eating then a couple seconds goes by and she gets super frustrated and pulls off. Then when I bring out the shield she’s perfectly fine. 
I feel like I shot myself in the foot with using the shield because she’s so use to it now.

Start without when she pulls off give it to her for a few mins to settle her down then take it off til she pulls off again then give her the shield to settle her then take it back off.. its alot of back and forth and makes for longer feedings but thats how I got my son off the shield and on the bare breast only

I also used one the first weeks. Afterwards, I would start with the shield for a few minutes and then take it off. Try different versions of on/off and see what works for your baby
