How do you get rid of your kids toys?

So my 8 year old son is at his grandmas for the week which gives me perfect time to clean and declutter his room.  But going through his toys I’ve come across a ton that he has outgrown but I can’t part with them.  They’re toys that I have fond memories of him playing with when he was little and it makes it hard to just give them away.  I do have a 1 year old daughter who could potentially enjoy them in a couple of years but my boyfriend is so adamant to just get rid of them.   Obviously none of it has any sentimental value to him as he wasn’t in our lives when my son was really young.  My son was 3 when my bf moved in so obviously he doesn’t get why I want to hang on to them.  What should I do?

I watch an episode of Hoarders 😂 The new season is airing so I’ve gotten rid of a few trash bags full of toys.

I'm going through the same thing so I understand your feelings. For me, I'm not keeping anything unless it was her absolute favorite toys that she continues to play with. She has some new born toys she still loves and has found other ways to play with them. Otherwise, I'm getting rid of them. There are plenty of children out there who would love your sons toys and who's parents cannot afford them. I found a pay it forward group for my town on Facebook where everything is free. I've given away so many things so far and the people are so appreciative. It feels good to give and it feels good to know my girls clothes and toys are having a new life somewhere else and will allow more families and children to make the same great memories I've had

I usually have to go through the kids toys with everybody 🤦🏻‍♀️😂. My kids will get mad at me if anything is missing and my husband is supper sentimental so we all do it together. I give my kids a trash bin and a box for giveaways and ask them to fill it. Also I sit with them the whole time and talk with them. I try to encourage them to give to others or give to their younger siblings. But they all share the toys as well because it’s in a play room separate from bed room to keep them from playing all night🤷‍♀️😂. This is just how things work for our family. I’m not really sure what you should do but maybe your child should have more say than the boyfriend because you both have attachments to the toys and you would be surprised what your child might come up with🤷‍♀️. I just remind myself that my kids won’t care if they don’t care now and that I can’t keep everything. I’ve kept three things for my second child from my first, because they’re quality and can be passed down a few times over. I also donate so I can remind myself that another child
will get to enjoy it, so that is sweet to me. Once they’re gone they’re gone, don’t think about it too much!
