Labor fast approaching?

38 weeks 1 day, just left my midwife appointment. I’m 2cm dilated and 80% effaced (thinned out). I was thinking of being induced next week at 39 weeks (elective induction) but the midwife said she doesn’t agree because for this being my first baby, I’m progressing really well. 
Any other moms have similar stories and gave birth before their due date? The midwife said it’s hard to say if baby will be here before my due date (sept 9th) but that I’m doing really good in progression. 
Last week I was 1cm dilated and 25% effaced.

If I were in your shoes, I would just let things progress naturally, especially since they seem to progressing really well for you. I’ve never been induced and have always just let nature take its course (both my babes cooked until the end - 40+1 and 39+5). Are you wanting to be induced to meet baby sooner or is there more of a medical reason? With this baby unless I medically need an induction, I plan on just waiting until he/she is ready to make their debut, but don’t get me wrong, I want this baby out ASAP!

Sunday the 16th I went into labor and delivery bc I just wasn’t feeling right, I was 3cm and 60% effaced, it was the same Wednesday the 19th, Friday the 21st I started cramping at 11pm and I had my son at 12:22pm Saturday the 22nd at exactly 38 weeks so there’s a chance you might not make it to 39 weeks

Seems like good progress! But everybody and every pregnancy is different - nobody can predict what will happen. If you want to wait and see if baby comes on their own, you could ask for a membrane sweep at 39 weeks instead of an induction? To see if that gets things moving naturally, if you’re still pregnant then. 
My experience last pregnancy:
37 weeks: 1cm, 30% effaced
38 weeks: 3cm, 40% effaced
39 weeks, 3cm, 40% effaced (no change)
40 weeks: water broke, 5cm, 60% effaced, no labor so was induced
This time:
36 weeks: 3cm 80% effaced
37 weeks: 3cm 80% effaced (no change)

If I were you I would wait it out. I know you want baby here now I know your uncomfortable but you are making such good progress and why not let your body do the work. I went at 40+2 with my first and I am so glad I let my body do the work.

Going past 40 weeks is completely normal. I definitely wouldn’t do any induction unless medically necessary, as it often leads to c sections since you’re pushing your body to do something that it’s not yet ready to do!
