HELP! Baby hates car seat

My 6 month old HATES riding in his car seat, he hates rear facing and he just screams! I am NOT turning him around until he’s 2/3 years old. My mother in law said to turn him but I’m not! Is there any toys or anything that helped anyone else? Looking for something that may keep him busy.

Also edit we have tried upgrading to convertiable he was in a Safety 1st Carrier, now he is in a Evenflo Everykid convertible. Same difference. He screams unless I just back there with him
