Is the philosopher Hegel cool?

Question

I just want opinions today, if you know who I'm talking about. 
Hegel is really difficult to understand. 
I think Hegel is a really valuable philosopher to study if you are serious about philosophy. 
But I've been scoffed at for reading him by some of my more progressive pals. (Which I'm also pretty progressive I guess, but not closed minded.)

I would say no because I don’t think any human alive or passed is or was “cool”, it’s not a correct description. 
I could understand why people would feel uncomfortable about certain philosophers. I’ve come across something similar by reading Ayn Ryan. The thing about “uncomfortable” philosophers is that they have SOME truths in their word, but they have taken their own idea to extremes it’s just not reasonable for someone who comes across a quote. 
They took their perspective and dived deep into it. Taboo, socially inadequate, questionable. Too uncomfortable. Freud, Copernicus, Marx. 
Philosophy should not be taken to heart. It’s in place to make you think of your actions and change or shape your views even in the slightest. Purposely extreme to let everyone come to understand the point they want to make. That’s what I think is cool. (Although they dive so deep they often don’t come back to the surface and truly believe their own view of the world). 
In a way, to me, it’s like saying “ALL men/women....” but of course not, that’s not realistic. Many miss the point when focusing on the “all” instead of what comes after. This same thing often happens with philosophy in *my* opinion.

I genuinely can’t remember much about him. 
It doesn’t sound like a matter of cool or uncool so much as your interests just diverging from that of your friend group. I’d take it as an opportunity to branch out and connect with new people.

I remember studying Hegel in high school. We had a “bagels with Hegel” day and discussed. This was over 10 years ago so I don’t remember too many specifics without going through and refreshing my memory, but I do remember thoroughly enjoying reading and discussing him.
