To all the women out there that think aren’t good enough because their body doesn’t fit today’s “ideal look”

Madison • 🦋We are the light of the world🦋 Matthew 5:14

Maybe you don’t have the fullest breasts with the tiniest waist and roundest hips and dewy skin and toned frame. That’s ok! Because guess what, the beauty standards of today could change tomorrow! Over history the beauty standard has changed so much. Here are some of the biggest beauty eras. (It’s kind of long but worth the read)

Ancient Egypt:1292-1069BC The ideal woman was slender, had narrow shoulders, a high waist, and a symmetrical face. The body icon of that day was Nefertiti. Ancient Egypt has brought the influence of wigs and jewelry to today’s world.

Ancient Greece: 300-500BC

In this era the ideal women was plump, full bodied, and light skinned or pale. During these years, women’s bodies were seen as a disfigured version of men’s. Much importance was placed on the physical appearance of men.

Han Dynasty: 206BC-220AD

Slim waist, pale skin, large eyes, small feet

Small feet is one aspect of Chinese beauty that has been around for centuries. Along with long black hair, white teeth, and red lips. Historically, the Chinese people have favored ultra-femininity.

Italian Renaissance: 1400-1700AD

Ample bosom, rounded stomach, full hips, and fair skin. There is an interesting reason to this standard of beauty. If you were thin or athletic shaped in these times, it was guessed that you were poor and didn’t have enough to eat. If you had tanned skin, rather than pale, people supposed that you did hard labor outdoors. So this standard of beauty reflected your place in society and how much money you had basically.

Victorian England: 1837-1901

Desirably plump, full-figured, cinched-waist. This began the era of the corset which started the desire of the hourglass figure. Which has influenced much of today’s beauty standards.

Roaring Twenties: 1920s

Flat chest, downplayed waist, short bob hairstyle, boyish figure. This era brought a quite different idea of beauty to the world. It was “in” to be flat chested and skinny. Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz, had to have her chest bound to fit that era of beauty standards. Curves were undesirable.

Golden Age of Hollywood: 1930-1950

Curves, hourglass figure, large breasts, slim waist. I think we all know who had the ideal body during this time. Marilyn Monroe. She was the biggest sex symbol then and continues to influence today’s beauty image as well.

Swinging Sixties: 1960s

Willowy, thin, long slim legs, adolescent physique. Being thin was in and idolized during these years. Much like the 20s

Supermodel Era: 1980s

Athletic, Svelte but curvy, tall, toned arms. The desired image in these years was thin, but athletic. There was also an upswing in anorexia, which experts believe to have been brought by the widespread obsession with exercise.

Homeless Chic: 1990s

Waifish, extremely thin, translucent skin, androgynous. The celebrated body of this time was a woman who looked thin, frail, and neglected. Model Kate Moss has an influence on this era.

Post modern beauty: 2000s-Today

Flat stomach, ‘healthy’ skinny, large breasts and butt. I think we all know who the big beauty icon of today is, Kim Kardashian-West. She is also beginning to influence another era of beauty similar to the 30s-50s where curvy is beginning to be “in”

Today’s society gets to say who’s beautiful and who isn’t. That’s terrible because just about every body type ever created was beautiful at some point in history. But I want to change that, just because you may not fit the norm today, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! Why does society get to pick who’s beautiful and who isn’t? We are all beautiful and have so much worth. Why trust everyone else when they obviously can’t pick what they think is pretty?! Maybe tomorrow four breasted women will be in. You never know.

Bottom line, you are gorgeous no matter your size, shape, or color. And I hope you can see that society isn’t something to rely on to find you worth💖 I hope you find this helpful😊
