My baby girl arrived quickly after a traumatic labour

I went into labour on my due date which was 4/9. It started tightening at 5pm. At 9pm it was intensifying so I called my parents to come and watch my son. On our way to the hospital my waters broke and contractions got worse.

My blood pressure was elevated and wouldn’t drop so they said no to my preference of a water birth. I asked when I can be shifted into the birth suite to use the shower and was also told I can’t have that either due to them needing to monitor baby.

The contractions got stronger and when they looked at the waters they were concerned she had done a poo in them. In the birth suite was 45 minutes. They checked me over and I was 6cm, my body was shaking and I asked to stand up.

As I tried to stand up baby’s heart rate dropped. She wanted me to move into my other side and contractions got intense. Before I knew it I had doctors, midwives and nurses in my face saying I was needing an emergency c section.

They were also concerned I had preeclampsia as my blood pressure wasn’t stabilising. They injected me to stop my contractions and wheeled me down. If baby’s heart rate didn’t pick up they were going to knock me out. My shakes got uncontrollable and I was 8cms at this point. I couldn’t speak or think and I had everyone trying to talk to me as my partner was getting ready for theatre. Baby’s heart rate settled and they did a c section with me being awake.

She was born at 1:36am on the 5/9/2020 weighing 8p3.

Although this wasn’t my choice to have her by c section, I’m experiencing discomfort, tenderness and pressure through my stomach with every move I make and realising I can’t do anything for the next 6 weeks... I am grateful the doctors were able to make the right decision and keep us both healthy.
