Buying a car on maternity leave??

Has anyone experienced financing a car while on maternity leave. I took a 18 gmonth maternity leave (Canada 🙌) but am only being pain for 12 months. So my payments have stopped and I have no actual income but I have enough saved that I can pay my mortgage, bills, ect...I go back to work in two months. Problem is I need a new car. The car is paid off next month but it unfortunately needs serious repairs and it’s not worth fixing. I was hoping it would last until I went back to work....but that’s not happening so I need a new car. Nothing fancy, used, and my husband can go sign the loan but Im worried they won’t consider me for financing without actual income? Which makes sense? Anyone done this??
