Help this is confusing😐

So I’ve been texting this guy that seems so sweet and respectful. First day of texting he did tell me that he broke up recently with his ex but that he’s convinced that it’s for the best because it should have happened long ago. So I’n my mind I was like okay, I’m not looking for anything right now. But he’s kept texting me everyday days after and he asks questions like trying to get to know me and he sounds very sweet so I have gotten to like him. He’s also tried asking me to hang out but then didn’t and it seemed like he was scared. However, days later I find out that one of my friends know him and to not develop any feelings because he’s been with his ex for years and they always go back together. The reason they broke up is because they fight alot so yea I was happy to know this just so that I won’t develop feelings. However, we have been texting each other almost everyday and our conversations are great. Some days he wouldn’t txt me because he knew id be busy for school so that’s sweet but other times he skips a day to text me and does it day after. I was really thinking that he liked me. Could it be that his inconsistency is because of his ex? Or he’s thinking about going back with his ex? Or he’s just not that interested in me😐
