What to do with toddler during hospital stay?

Question

My daughter will be around 18 months old when I deliver. Does anyone know what hospital policies typically are for them staying in your room? I don't want her there during delivery but after the baby comes, I'm wondering if she can stay with me and my husband. We really don't have anybody that I trust to watch her for that long. The other option is for my husband to not stay at the hospital but he'd really like to if possible.

I know it’ll be really hard, but your husband will likely need to leave you to be with your older child. The one silver lining is that you won’t be totally alone as I’m sure the nurses will do all that they can to assist.

Thanks everyone. I asked today at my appointment and as most of you said, no minors are allowed at all anymore so I'll be figuring out a plan. My Dr said that a lot of women are opting to only stay the one night. Thanks all for the info! I am allowed to have 2 visitors during my stay (the same 2, they can't switch out) so I guess at least that's a bonus.

Our hospital isn’t allowing more than 1 person to be there. And once they leave they cannot come back. 
So my mom is going to come and watch my toddler so that my husband be at the hospital.

Typically, it's unacceptable for minors to stay in the hospital overnight. In these times, my hospital isn't even allowing minors to visit. 
Working in a hospital, the only two exceptions I saw were a homeless family with two small children who were all living in a car. We let the whole family stay. It's just not morally acceptable to send 2 children under 5 to a car to sleep. And a single mother with no social support with a newborn.

No hospital is allowing children right now..most just recently started allowing one support person..i'd do my best to find a sitter near you maybe look on Facebook for the nearest mommy group💜

Even before Covid, children could not stay the night. With Covid, they aren’t even allowed to visit. You’ll have to call the hospital and see what the policy is.

No children allowed in our hospital either.  I think that’s the rules everywhere right now with covid.  But with my first I was fine with my husband leaving after she was born .  He made sure we were ok and settled . You’ll have the nurses and you’ll try and sleep .  Baby also usually sleeps and eats.  Then you’ll have the peace of mind that your toddler is in good hands with her dad .  If it’s vaginal they’ll let you leave 24 hours after giving birth.

Pre covid, minors were allowed to stay IF another adult was present at ALL times. I’m not sure what most hospitals are doing now.
