What can the average person do to stop atrocities?

Piggybacking off the anon post that is in Politics right now.
Recently Dawn Wooten came forward and reported medicinal neglect and abuse including unnecessary hysterectomies at a Georgia ICE Detention Center. 
I feel sick and outraged that this is going on. And very worried for Wooten. But what can people like me do about this besides write an angry letters to politicians? 
What can be done to protect whistle blowers?

People actually have to give AF honestly. There are too many anti-maskers and corona is fake people out there who honestly only give a shit about themselves. The pro-choice movement needs to give AF.
Everyone needs to care. Back the BLM expand the movement and give the ice detention centers hell until they fix this shit. Mass hysterectomies, deporting parents and having their children get adopted by people here or putting them into the foster system is fucked up!! 
Black people being murdered by cops for shit white people get away with every day is bullshit. But people only give AF about themselves.
Where is all lives matter during all of this?!?! Nowhere. That’s where.

I posted this photo on the topic, but I’ll put it here again. She’s is an average woman, who’s circumstances led her to do something brave against atrocities.

For the rest of us, we can follow her example and speak out when possible, educate ourselves, then use that to educate others, and vote like our lives depend on it this November (because they do). Honestly, I think the discussions we have in here are doing something. Maybe I won’t “win” an argument against whoever I’m speaking with, but I always hope I get through new concepts and ideas to those reading along.

RAICES, the ACLU, Project Corazon..3 organizations off the top of my head where your donations will go to helping the legal fund of immigrants like those who were forcibly sterilized. Sometimes I find if you feel helpless it is best to look towards organizations and people who have the power to affect real change and see what kind of help they need. If you cant afford to donate, maybe they need volunteers. If you cant volunteer, just talking about it and raising awareness helps

They have to keep track of it all and tally what calls are about so bombarding their phones may create a stir on capital hill that could possibly start some noise. But what is that saying fork the Lorax that a whole lot of people like you have to care a whole lot nothing will happen

And actually vote for people who would do something about it. The whole "vote blue/red no matter who" idea is toxic and doesnt fix problems like this.

I feel completely useless in the face of this. I always wondered what I would do if I was in the place of a German citizen in the 30's. Now I have a chance to find out and I sign petitions, write emails, and make angry faces on social media posts.

Ultimately, we have to be willing to stand up, speak out, and take the consequences. People who shine a light on severe wrongdoing, let alone low level corruption, are rarely loved. They are harassed, widely condemned, often threatened, sometimes imprisoned, and in some extreme cases, killed. It's not easy to stand up for righteousness, but we must. For atrocities to stop, there has to be a cacophony of voices shouting for its end. Write letters, make phone calls, stand in support of whistleblowers, be a whistleblower, speak the truth no matter the consequences, put what is right ahead of personal security and safety. 
My husband has not stopped known atrocities, but while he was still working he spoke out regularly against unsafe practices in his workplace that could have led to significant loss of life in the form of mid-air collisions of airplanes filled with hundreds of people. He was not popular for doing so and had multiple investigations launched against him, all of which ultimately went nowhere because he was clean, but the agency for which he worked went after him hard. He felt it was absolutely necessary to stand up against abusive behaviour, dangerous practices, and rank mismanagement, though. To do what is right, one must count the cost and it may be very high, but at some point the balance must tip in favour of doing what is necessary to shine a light on activity that harms or may lead to the harm of people.

Donate $ and/or Give your time... AND VOTE! Vote every year, not just in general elections. 
Time is something that I don’t have lot of so I donate small amounts; ACLU, Amy McGrath (#ditchmitch), Joe Biden, Planned Parenthood, and others.
As I recently said to a Republican friend, whose only concern was $ coming out of her pocket... I am willing to see my taxes go up in small amounts to know that social services are being provided for those in need and so I vote that way.
Time can be given by volunteering, writing letters/emails and making phone calls. Look for petitions or better yet, start one!
We all have so much more power and say than we give ourselves credit for. Small actions done by a lot of people make a difference!

This is so awful and disgusting. How could anyone do that, it's one of the steps to genocide. Separated from their kids and families, most of the women there were escaping horrible situations then they get their organs cut out. I can't imagine how terrible it is.  A hysterectomy is a serious procedure it's a painful and difficult recovery.
