How do you gauge baby clothes sizing and amount ?

Just wondering how do you determine how much clothing to get within the first year or a child’s life? 
Don’t want to get too many items of one size that the baby may outgrow quickly

My girl is 14 months old and today she wore a 18 month shirt, a 12 month jacket and 6-9 month pants 🤣🤣 
It all depends on the brand and material. 
Just buy as they grow! But for now, get the same season clothes that range in at least 6 months in size.

You can always buy more! Just a heads up that different brands are smaller/bigger than others. I had found that gerber is smaller than carters which is smaller than target. 
But also my baby can fit into target 0-3 onesies but needs the target newborn pants. So your kid might be a chunk or long and lean. So hard to say!
And mine doesn’t really spit up so we can wear a onesie more than once. Other babies require a few per say. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You kind of don’t, so much depends on how big they are at birth & how fast they grow, for me before my daughter was born I only bought a few newborn size outfits & then more of the 0-3 months size, (we knew she was going to be on the bigger side but not quite how big, turned out her last ultrasound was very close it estimated 9 lbs even) she ended up at 9 lbs 2.2oz & 21 inches long so I was glad I hadn’t bought too many newborn sized items (I think she only wore them for a week or two), she sped through sizes so quickly that she ended up never wearing some of the clothes we had on hand, we had a lot of very generous friends & family who gave us brand new & gently used clothing so I didn’t have to buy too much
