I got it done due to having abnormal genetic testing results. It sucked bc I had to do it alone due to covid but besides that it was quick and simple . They monitored it with an ultrasound the whole time, went slowly to be sure they didn’t poke the baby . It didn’t really hurt that bad , definitely not the best feeling but it was fine. It has a risk of miscarriage but it’s a very small chance , and I got the results back in a week and it was definitely a weight lifted to know my baby was 100% okay !

Answer

There are a ton of other tests to do first before having the amniocentesis done or if your above a certain age. If you’re original genetics test come back as most likely normal, then I don’t see why you’d need it done.
