Genetic testing?

Has anyone had it done yet? I think I’ll be opting in for it when I go to my appointment on the 12th but I’m really unsure of how the entire process is. I’ve read it’s blood work or an ultrasound then I’ve read it’s both. I’ve also seen people find out the gender from them which would be awesome. Either way we’ll be finding out that week but if I can save $50 and an hour drive to a private clinic I’ll take it lol.

Genetic testing and chromosomal testing are two different things. Genetic testing screens if you carry anything, it’s a blood draw. I found out I carried SMA so my husband got tested as well, thankfully he’s not a carrier so we’re clear. Genetic testing is based on you, so you only need to do it for pregnancy number 1. 
Chromosomal testing is done two ways. The blood draw, or NIPT, screens for your risk of Down’s syndrome and the other trisomies. It also tells you the sex of the baby. It actually looks at babies dna that’s in your system. You can also get the nuchal translucency scan which measures fluid at the base of the neck. This can also indicate risk of Down’s syndrome.

I’m having my genetic testing tomorrow. Ultrasound and bloodwork. I’m actually not sure and I’ll ask at quest diagnostics if the test can show gender dna 🧬 but I do know that the NIPT can if your insurance covers it. That test is expensive and if I’m correct it’s only free for some over 35 and at high risk for a child having genetic abnormalities. The ultrasound definitely depends on how clear the machine can take pictures and how much water you drank / empty/ full bladder is to get a good shot of the area to tell lol sometimes baby has legs crossed or isn’t in a good position. I’m definitely asking even though it’s early. I found a clinic near me that has a $40-50 package for early gender scan starting at 13 weeks. I’ll be 13 weeks next Tuesday. I think I might wait until the 17th -31st of October. But might as well see if I can skip out on paying

My appointment is on the 12th too, I’ll be exactly 12w. They gave me so many options for testing at my 8 week and it’s overwhelming. I think we decided on genetic screening I think it’s called the NIPT. Ps. I’m not high risk.

The 12w US (+blood PAPP-A and beta-hCG) to evaluate chromossomal abnormalities (trisomies) is the standard here.
I've done that but also done the NIPT at 10w (fully paid).
Both were in agreement! I have a baby with zero chromossomal abnormalities.
But the US also searched for other things. I'm high risk for fetal growth restriction.
If I had only one done it would be the US...

It had the nuchal translucency scan done last week its an ultrasound then blood work.
Baby has to be positioned correctly for them to get the measurements they need from the back of baby's neck. The nice part of the scan was that its a long detailed scan. The anatomy at 18wks is when they typically get gender.

Blood work and ultrasound. My insurance doesn’t cover the test that includes the sex unless I’m high risk (I’m not). So instead of spending hundreds I’m going to a private ultrasound clinic for $50.

I had it done last week.
It was just a blood test. And you can find out the gender if you want to through the results.
I did have an ultrasound beforehand but that’s because I live in Australia and they do an U/S before to check your babies alive. This is because we have to pay $450 for the test and there’s been cases where woman have paid only to find out the baby was not alive.
