How far ahead do you need to make a Dr appointment?

How long is the wait with your primary Dr?
I just sent in a request to schedule an appointment and the receptionist called me back saying my Dr does not have any availability until January and the nurse practioners don't have availability until December.
Is this normal?

Depends what it's for. If I'm booking a pap yeah it'll usually be a few months. For most things it's a week or 2 . If it's a sinus infection, UTI etc then I'll get in same day or next.

For a routine physical mine is about that time too. I just scheduled mine last month and they couldn’t get me in until End of November. If it’s for a problem they usually work with me and get me in. 
I work in a doctors office and I always advise patients to call at least 6 weeks before they’re due for a routine appt. we have a scheduling template that we use so there will always be space left for urgent patients.

For a regular routine physical type appointment it’s usually a longer wait time, like a month or more. For things that feel very concerning, I just go to an urgent care place. 
It all depends on the doctor. I always had issues scheduling with my OBGYN and the ultrasound place when I was pregnant because they were large practices seeing a lot of people, so urgent problems get priority over routine appointments.

If I have a problem like UTI or sick they get me in that day or the next. For just a routine dr appointment like a week or two to get an appointment
