Baby not talking ??

Question

Very concerned FTM, my 16 month old only blabs words. However, the only clear words he speaks are mama, dada, book, and okay. I think comments from other people are making me concerned rather. Is this amount of words sufficient at his age? He is totally social we have been abroad many times to different countries, of course can’t due to corona now. Point is we’re very outgoing and social. He relays that but just wondering how are your children doing When it comes to talking should I be talking to my doctor??

My 16-month old is very similar, he’s starting to sound out words and point to things but not quite there and only says a handful of words.  His receptive communication is very good, he understands exactly what youre talking about when you ask him to find something or do something.  His older brother (who’s now 2 1/2) was very similar at this age and now everyone talks about how advanced he is! He really started to pick up his speech at age 2 which I know is late but nows he’s nonstop and his pronunciation is very good.  So my point here being just keep on talking and reading and being supportive; try not to get discouraged and worked up about these milestones.  If you eventually need someone to work on the speech, you’ll cross that bridge and in the end your baby will be okay.  Remember you’re doing a great job!

My son is the same. He'll say uh oh, dada, mama and maybe a few other words. He babbles a lot and makes tons of sounds and noises, like when he's pushing a car he'll make a vroom sound or babble to himself while playing. He's also super social, has a big brother, spends a few days at a preschool with myself. 
I think it's completely normal and no need to worry. Just continue to read books, socialize, and talk as you're doing normal everyday tasks. 
I've taught my son a few signs to help with communication during this in between phase. It really helps to cut down on the screaming he would do when trying to commit something. He'll sign all done, thank you, please, more and shakes his head for no.

My first blasted of with every milestone. It's been hard remembering not to always compare, because sometimes I do. I just need to remember they both go at a different pace. 
My second, she has a small vocabulary. Dada, daddy, mama, ow, boo, hi, bye, yay, and will sing along to the "doo" part in that baby shark song. Her babbles are great! Has a bunch of different sounds figured out, just needs to make them into words now.

Same thing here! I think he will just talk when he is ready. He does everything as what has been mentioned in the other comments. The doctor said by 18 months if he is not doing more then speech therapy. Which I really hope he won’t have to do.

My son is similar. He babbles a ton now (which is kinda recent he didn’t babble much before his birthday) but only has 6 words and doesn’t use them much at all. He understands pretty much everything we say to him though. At his 15 month appointment the pediatrician said he needed 2 words, which was exactly what he had then, so he was good. She said at 18 months he’ll need 10 words or we’ll go to speech therapy. I was in speech therapy as a kid and it was fine so it’s not something I worry about. We repeat things a lot with him, we read a ton of books, all the things the pediatrician tells us to do. I’ve been teaching him more sign language lately and he picks up on it pretty quick now.
