Is a village important for raising children?

Ive always heard it takes a village to raise a child. Do you think that's true ? Has it been true in your life ?

It’s helpful but not necessary. My family is 1100 miles away. I’d love them to be closer so they could help but I am managing without.

Super important I think to have reliable adult influences in your child’s life. My in laws are thinking about moving close to us and I am soooo thankful. It’s been very difficult to have no family close by.

I think so, but the village looks different for everyone. Most of us won’t raise our children in isolation (even if it sometimes feels like it.). There will be other influences on our children. It could be family, friends, childcare providers, teachers, or anyone else in your child’s life.

I have a one and a half year old. All of our family lives 12 hours away. They support us in the since of, if we need something they will try their best but in the same since I'm a SAHM and have never had a night away. We have some friends, not close enough that I've ever asked them to babysit. It's not unrealistic but when I see my cousins going out every weekend I do get jealous sometimes.

Not necessary. 
If I trusted my family more than I do, I might feel differently. My family not my in laws are bad people. I just don’t trust them to do what I consider right for my child. It’s not necessarily about rules either tho that is a part of it. 
Only daycare has watched my son other than me and my husband. He is 21 months old and I’ve never needed a babysitter outside of daycare. If I need to do something that’s easier without him, I do it during daycare hours or on a day my husband is free to keep him or I just take him with me. I don’t go places my son can’t go. Our families are a part of our lives and we see them frequently but I don’t want my son to learn too much from them especially without me around to correct or explain to him why it’s ok or not ok. 
It’s nice to have a village if/when it’s needed. I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I don’t need to ask people for help very often and never with my child. I’ve gotten to a point with my job where I can come and go as I need to so if my child is sick I can be the one with him. If he needs to go to the dr I can take him. I’ve gotten to the point where I can afford daycare and all of the other things we need and some of what we want.

It would most definitely be helpful and nice for sure to have great supports and family but not necessary:) !

I have an 11 month old & both sides of our families (husbands & mine) doesn’t get along with either of us so none of them see our baby & we’re doing just fine🤷🏼‍♀️

It is if they respect your boundaries. We had a lot of issues with our parents postpartum because they wanted to drop in and stop by and do things without discussing them with us first.

Had a village for my first two and not for our third. My first I had ppd so.. idk. My second I was so grateful for that village, hey helped care for my first while I bonded and I felt I had my best shot with him. Our third we had moved across the continent and the day after he was born it was declared a global pandemic sooo no village (my mom was supposed to come for a month but canceled two days before he was born) it was really rough. Luckily it was our third so my husband was actually very helpful cause he knew what to do and I knew what to ask for. I never was able to EBF I just didn’t get the support I needed and I struggled quite a lot but I didn’t get ppd. I was very glad to have a village for our first two.

It definitely would be awesome to have family support but I'm doing okay all alone with two boys with the help of God.
