Montessori and ADHD?

Hey guys! My son has ADHD and we are currently in the process of finding meds to help him. He’s starting kindergarten next year and I’m adamant about not putting him in public school. I’m torn between Christian academies ($900-1000/mo) and Montessori ($1500-2000/mo). Part of me thinks he will do great in Montessori because he is so hands on and doesn’t do well with the classic pencil and paper. They also focus more on social skills and don’t force academics. But I’m concerned that the lack of structure may be TOO much for him. Every child is different but does anyone have any experience with ADHD and Montessori? I really don’t want to pay a couple thousand a month for him to get worse 😬

Christian schools are not held to the requirements public schools are when it comes to students with special needs. I worked in one and didn’t even have a guidance counselor there for support. IEPs were not honored or created there. I personally would lean Montessori as it’s much more child focused overall even without an individualized plan. Montessori only goes through K in my area, though.

I don’t have experience with ADHD and Montessori per se, but I work in a Christian school. When I first started I was struggling with a couple of the kids that have ADHD and I was reading up. They definitely need special attention and a lot of structure. Whatever you decide, I’m pretty sure kids learn hands on in Christian school too. Most important thing is that classes are small so that he gets all the attention he’s going to need. I had to work personally with the kids I had to make a progress, but it works and they can excel!
