Please Help- Can a midwife refer you to a psychiatrist?
I’m currently pregnant and I don’t have a GP- I would consider my midwife my GP as I go there for all of my appointments. I got PPD really bad with my first pregnancy (never got help for it because I’ve grown up feeling like I needed to suck it up) and I’ve been struggling with anxiety and depression outside of pregnancy as well. I’m getting to the point where I really think I need to get help especially if I am already doing bad before birth has happened.
I think maybe I should be evaluated since I’ve never been before and maybe get a therapist from there. I wanted to know if my midwife could refer me for a psychiatrist and then a therapist? Does anybody have any experience with this? I just don’t want to bring it up if she can’t even refer me.
Thank you to anybody who comments ❤️
UPDATE:
Thank you all so much for your help. I found an online program that I didn’t need a referral and got an appointment same day. After talking to the prescriber they prescribed me Zoloft. I just don’t know what to do because he said while it is considered safe for pregnancy there is always a risk and it’s up to me if I think I should take it. I’m having a such a hard time with this decision because I don’t want to do anything that could hurt my baby, but I’ve been really needing the help. I’ll be seeing the counselor soon.
