Boyfriends mom brings her own food when we have them over for dinner...?

Question

Would you be annoyed by this: I live with my bf of 3.5 years, and his parents live an hour away, but we spend most of our weekends all together at a cabin, where his mom cooks us all breakfast lunch & dinner. We invite them over for lunch or dinner every month or so, and the first time I cooked, but every time after that his mom always brings the entire meal, and groceries for him. I’m a good cook, I love to do it, and I feel uncomfortable having guests bring their meal, and also like she doesn’t think I’m able to keep him fed. We make more $ than his parents so it’s not a $ thing either. 
Last night he invited them over for dinner tomorrow, and I told him I would cook and that I have plans in the morning so they’d have to come in the afternoon. So I bought food (way more expensive than I’d buy for myself and him), and today he tells me that his mom is actually going to bring everything, and that I can make a salad if I want, and they’re coming at 11am. I’m just annoyed/frustrated. Maybe I should just give up trying and accept her food happily?

i mean, i would take the free meal and be thankful. 
i don’t see that she’s doing it to be spiteful or mean. 
in her eyes, she’s probably helping you guys out and it’s an act of love.

That would annoy me and id make my boyfriend tell his mom that I was cooking and they could bring a dessert if they wanted. That’s honestly just rude of her to impose like that when you already said you’d cook.

Ask why. Maybe it’s a food allergy thing or they have had issues in the past with food poising at a persons house or maybe it’s a mental health thing. Who knows. Just ask.

Yeah, I’d be irritated. I would also think that your bf would also stick up for you knowing you went out of your way to cook. It’s definitely her being passive aggressive. What’s the point of them even coming over if it’s all about her cooking?

That is insanely rude. It just sounds like she doesn't respect you and this is how she does it. You should have a talk with her about this.

I can see why you’re annoyed but for tomorrow maybe she thinks she’s helping you and enjoys cooking too.
Compromise, let her make something and you make something in the future and collaborate. Maybe cooking will become your bond

Yeah I'd give up- I think some people are just used to being the cook & having everything their way. 
My grandma is like that. 
But, I am like that out if necessity because I have so many foods that make me sick 🙃 so, I bring my own food, but I don't impose my food on others either.
So who knows why she's doing this. Maybe her food is her comfort zone. Maybe there are things that make her or her family sick? Maybe she genuinely is trying to be helpful!

Maybe she doesn't like your cooking but doesn't want to say it. Ask your boyfriend to talk to her and see what the issue is
