Myth? Very fertile after giving birth?

Is it true that you are very fertile after giving birth?

I've asked a few OBs this and they've all said it's a myth from what they've read in the research. It's *possible* to get pregnant more or less immediately, but you're not any more fertile than you were. That's what I was told, anyway. 
They do all seem to have stories of determined couples getting it on while still in the hospital because they think it's true, which is a little disturbing given what the woman just went through, but kudos to them if they're up to it.

Yes you’re super fertile. That’s one of the reasons that doctors tell you not to have sex for at least 6 weeks after birth, so you don’t accidentally get pregnant again

Yes it is a myth. All bodies are different and they change as we get older so our fertility changes too.

I wouldn’t say super fertile. I say that because if your body isn’t ovulating you won’t be fertile. It took me a year to start my period after I had my first daughter. I was breastfeeding. So there was no way I could have gotten pregnant in that year. But you will ovulate before you get your period back. So it’s hard to tell when your first cycle will be. I’ve had friends get pregnant within 6 weeks of having their baby. Another friend got pregnant on bc right after her baby was born. But I think they are naturally more fertile. But I also believe our bodies change over time. One friend took over a year to get pregnant with her first. After that she had 5 more. 2 of them were on bc. I had no problem getting pregnant with my 2 and now am having trouble with the third. They tell you 6 weeks after you have the baby because it’s potentially dangerous. Infections from the placenta. Also if you do get pregnant your uterus hasn’t had a lot of time to heal before starting again.

Yes it’s very true. That’s why drs warm you about it and try to get you on birth control ASAP as your body takes a while to fully heal from birth. That’s also why so many end up with Irish twins when they aren’t on birth control after baby is born.
